Gifts for Taekwon-Do Practitioners

Looking for gifts for that special Taekwon-Do student? Be careful, there is a lot of junk out there! What’s more, some Taekwon-Do practitioners are offended or disappointed when they receive “Karate” gifts or books associated with a different Taekwon-Do style than the one they practice. Below, I’ve done the hard work of finding the best stuff out there from reliable sites and described, as best I can, the ideal recipient of the gift. Yes, my wife makes a small commission from some of these links, but you’ll see that it doesn’t affect your price whether you buy... Read→

Goals for 2010 – Oneonta Taekwon-Do

If you don’t know where you’re going, you’ll never get there. - Yogi Berra Dear Students, First, thank you very much for the generous gifts. I was very surprised and happy to receive a gift I can enjoy with my family. I have been thinking a great deal about the coming changes for Oneonta Taekwon-Do and wanted to share my goals with you. As I started writing my goals, I prepared one of my Zig Ziglar Goal Worksheets which I wrote about in an article here.  There are a couple of interesting downloads and videos there that you might enjoy and benefit from. Our highest priority is to move into... Read→

10 Children’s spots available

Time sensitive. Act quickly as spaces are going FAST! Dear Parent, My name is Ray Mannion and I’ve been teaching self-defense in Oneonta since 2004.  People have been asking me for years to teach children’s classes but I’ve resisted until now.  It was very important to me that I establish a school with a reputation for integrity.  After 5 years, I believe our adults and teens have earned us respect in our community and I am now pleased to invite your child to join our school. The truth of the matter is I love working with kids.  It’s why I taught swimming and diving lessons at my... Read→

Videos

We do our best to capture video at every promotion test.  Thank you very much to our students and family who graciously give us the files to put on the website! All videos are tagged and categorized so that you can search our site by name, belt, pattern, etc.  Of course, we fully respect the privacy of our students who would prefer not to be shown. Videos help us gain perspective on how far we have come and how much more we need to improve.  Feel free to leave complimentary comments to your fellow classmates and remember the tenets of Taekwon-Do should be maintained at all times! Congratulations to Theo on his promotion to Blue belt. Theo began his Taekwon-Do journey many years ago in Oneonta where he earned a blue belt but was forced to stop training when his instructor retired. We are pleased that Theo could put on a white belt and train dilligently while working back to his previous level and we look forward to his future training with us. Cael McCabe earns his red belt. In this post are videos of Cael demonstrating Toi-Gye, board breaking, and sparring with Tom Hill. Cael performs the pattern Toi-Gye. Cael breaks two boards with a back kick, and two boards with a cross-behind side kick. Keep in mind the force that must be generated to break 1 and 1/2 inches of pine wood. Below are videos of the January promotion test. Our red belts took turns sparring each other. It takes a great deal of courage and confidence to stand face to face and fight with people. Especially people who are already pretty good at fighting! We are very pleased that our students demonstrate self-control while still demonstrating solid sparring skills.
